Copa America 2019 will take place in Brazil from 14th June to 7th July. This is the 46th edition of the tournament and it will feature 12 teams. Uruguay is the most successful team in this hugely popular competition whereas Chile are current champions, clinching their second-ever title in 2016.

As always, the fans around the globe – and not only in South America – are anticipating the start of the contest. It will be extremely interesting to see which teams have made the most progress, and who will end up lifting the trophy. Copa America 2019 is the final edition to be played on odd years and with a total of 12 teams.

Starting from 2020, the tournament will be held in the same years as international competitions organised by UEFA. The Copa America organisers plan to expand the number of participants to 16, which is further expected to enhance competitiveness and overall popularity.

Originally, the organization of the 2019 Copa América was intended for Chile. Due to the 2014 World Cup which took place in Brazil, the two nations came up with the idea of exchanging their terms. Chile would consequently go on to organize the 2015 edition while Brazil were given the honour of doing it in 2019. This agreement was officially ratified by CONMEBOL in 2012.

Copa America 2019 Groups and Tournament Set up

Apart from all ten CONMEBOL national teams which are eligible to enter the competition, CONMEBOL announced two teams from Asian Football Confederation would be invited to partake in the 2019 Copa América. This will be the first time that Qatar participates in the Copa América, thus becoming the first Arabian country to ever play in the tournament.

Japan, on the other side, will compete for the second time. Their previous appearance was in 1999. Interestingly enough, this is the first edition of the competition not to feature a team from CONCACAF.

  • Group A: Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru
  • Group B: Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Qatar
  • Group C: Uruguay, Ecuador, Japan, Chile

The opening match will be played at the Estadio do Morumbi between Brazil and Bolivia. Group games run from June 14 to July 24, and there will be a three-day break before the knock-out stages commence.

Reasons to bet on the Copa America 2019

South America is one of the places that has produced the biggest talent this game has ever seen. The likes of Messi, Maradona, Pele, Ronaldo, are just some among a plethora of amazing players to come from this continent.

You can be quite sure many scouts from big leagues like the Premier League or La Liga will pay atttention on this tournament to scout the next superstars.

It seems almost impossible to find a big European club that doesn’t have one or two South Americans among their ranks. These people live and breathe football and have always been pretty impressive at it. After all, we have seen three World Cup Champions arising from this part of the globe.

Argentina and Uruguay have done it twice, and Brazil has won it on five different occasions. South American contests are filled with pure emotion and some of the best attacking line-ups in the world. The South Americans are known for their attack-oriented style of football and that has given us so many great clashes in the past.

This edition of Copa America is bound to be no different and we expect plenty of great football. Ultimately, no fan should miss this star-studded competition.
