Our prediction for this KNVB Cup match:
There will be fireworks when NEC Nijmegen and Fortuna Sittard face each other in the KNVB Beker last 16. NEC sit in the 6th position in the Eerste Divisie standings, and, no doubt, the team’s main goal is to secure promotion to the Jupiler League. Rogier Meijer’s troops are tough to beat at home, but they face a difficult task in Thursday’s football match. Fortuna Sittard, on the other hand, recorded three wins in the previous four league fixtures.
Sjors Ultee’s troops aim to build on a 2-0 win over Zwolle, but beating NEC on the road is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards at Goffertstadion, and we believe that punters can find value in betting on draw. When the two teams met in the KNVB Beker two years ago Fortuna Sittard defeated Nijmegen 3-2, but we are tempted to put our money on draw this time out.
Highlighted Player (Alexei Koselev):
Alexei Koselev is a Moldovan international who plays for Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard. Koselev started his youth career at Kuban Krasnodar, but he did not see any game action with the Russian club at senior level.
The Moldovan goalkeeper played for the likes of Gagauzia, Dacia-2 Buiucani, Real-Succes, Saxan Gagauz Yeri, FC Tiraspol, Sheriff Tiraspol, and Politehnica Iasi before joining Fortuna Sittard in the summer of 2018. Alexei Koselev has 18 caps for the Moldova U21 team, and he made his senior debut in a qualifier against Russia in 2015.
The 200-cm-tall shot-stopper managed to keep his first clean sheet with the Moldova national team in a 2-0 win over San Marino on March 19, 2017. Alexei Koselev’s preferred foot is right, and he wears the No. 77 shirt at Fortuna Sittard. He made his Eredivisie debut on August 11, 2018 in a 1-1 draw with Excelsior.
Highlighted Team (Sittard):
Fortuna Sittard is one of the newer additions to Dutch football as the club was founded on July 1, 1968. During the 1990s talented footballers such as Kevin Hofland, Mark van Bommel, and Fernando Ricksen played for the club, but they failed to close the gap between Dutch giants Ajax and PSV. In 1999, though, the Fortunezen did well to make it to the Dutch Cup final, with the team facing Ajax in the title game.
Amsterdammers defeated Fortuna Sittard 2-0 at De Kuip, with Jesper Gronkjaer scoring a brace. Fortuna Sittard players wear yellow shirts and green shorts when playing at home, while their away kit is white. The Fortunezen host their rivals at Fortuna Sittard Stadion. The venue was built in 1999, and it can hold up to 12,500 spectators.
Aforementioned midfielder Mark Van Bommel is the most notable footballer who played for the club. After ending his spell with Fortuna Sittard in 1999, Mark van Bommel played for the likes of PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, and Milan.
