Our prediction for this match:
After failing to beat Ukraine (3-3) and Poland (0-1) in the last two friendly games, Germany will look to return to winning ways when they welcome Colombia to Veltins Arena on Tuesday evening. Die Mannschaft obviously struggle at the back, but they are still seen as hot favourites to beat the South American outfit in front of home fans. Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan is pushing for a start as well as Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, and Robin Gosens.
Los Cafeteros, meanwhile, aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Iraq, but they face an uphill task in Gelsenkirchen. Zenit forward Mateo Cassierra is widely expected to return to the starting XI after scoring the winner as a substitute in Friday’s friendly. Anyhow, we are tempted to put our money on the Germans this time out as they are desperate to put an end to their three-match winless run.
Highlighted Player (Ilkay Gundogan):
Ilkay Gundogan is a German footballer of Turkish origin who made a name for himself playing for Borussia Dortmund. The skilful midfielder began his professional career at VFL Bochum, but it was at Nurnberg that he was given the opportunity to prove his undoubted potential. He needed just two years to make Germany’s top clubs stand up and take notice and the Millionaires secured his signature for mere €4 million.
That would prove to be a great investment as Gundogan quickly slotted straight into the starting line-up and became a playmaker in the side led by Jurgen Klopp and later Thomas Tuchel. The midfield maestro kept being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, but he resisted temptation to leave Borussia Dortmund, winning one Bundesliga trophy with the club and making it to the Champions League final.
Gundogan unfortunately missed the 2014 World Cup finals through injury, but there is still time for the BVB star to make things right and lift a major international trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Colombia):
Seleccion de futbol Colombia has stepped on to the international scene in 1938 with its competitive debut against Mexico. Colombia has in recent years become a national symbol of strength representing country’s efforts to fight the negative reputation.
Passionate about their football team, Colombians have formed a huge fan base which enjoyed in their team’s impressive run to the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals at the competition in which Real Madrid star James Rodriguez was awarded the Golden Boot for most goals and the Best Goal of the Tournament awards. Jose Pekerman’s team has also been named the Fair Play team at the same event.
The fans were pretty disappointed to see their team reach the quarter-final stage at the 2015 Copa America though as Colombia crashed out in disappointing fashion losing to Argentina after a penalty kick. Radamel Falcao remains the most prominent star of the current team despite his poor spells with Manchester United and Chelsea respectively. Monaco striker is also the team’s top scorer with 25 goals added to his name.
