Our prediction for this FA Cup match:
Manchester City will look to extend their winning run to five games in all competitions when they take on Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Citizens sit in the second place in the Premier League, meaning that they will give 100% to go all the way in the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola should have a full squad to choose from, with both Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne pushing for a start after the duo came off the bench in a 1-0 win over Palace.
The Clarets, on the other hand, are on the right track to return to the Premier League, and seeing that they are fully focused on the Championship, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. In their last meeting in the FA Cup, four years ago, Man City outclassed Burnley 5-0. As for the away team, all Brownhill, Churlinov, and Harwood-Bellis are out of contention with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Ilkay Gundogan):
Ilkay Gundogan is a German footballer of Turkish origin who made a name for himself playing for Borussia Dortmund. The skilful midfielder began his professional career at VFL Bochum, but it was at Nurnberg that he was given the opportunity to prove his undoubted potential. He needed just two years to make Germany’s top clubs stand up and take notice and the Millionaires secured his signature for mere €4 million.
That would prove to be a great investment as Gundogan quickly slotted straight into the starting line-up and became a playmaker in the side led by Jurgen Klopp and later Thomas Tuchel. The midfield maestro kept being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, but he resisted temptation to leave Borussia Dortmund, winning one Bundesliga trophy with the club and making it to the Champions League final.
Gundogan unfortunately missed the 2014 World Cup finals through injury, but there is still time for the BVB star to make things right and lift a major international trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Burnley):
Burnley were one of the founding members of the Football League back in 1888. The Clarets did remarkably well to win the FA Cup trophy back in 1914 and the club owners have been trying to bring glory days back to Turf Moor ever since.
Burnley defeated Liverpool in the 1913/1914 FA Cup final and, no doubt, this is regarded as the greatest achievement in the club’s history. The Clarets finished the 2015/2016 Championship campaign in top position in the standings and, as a result, they will participate in the English Premier League in the 2016/2017 season.
Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor and the capacity of the stadium is 21,401. The Clarets have won two Community Shield trophies so far, in 1960 and 1973, but they have yet to clinch the Premier League title. Claret is the dominant colour of the team’s home shirts.
