Our prediction for this KNVB Cup match:
Buoyed by a 3-1 win over Excelsior, PSV will look to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on Twente in a highly-anticipated KNVB Beker game. PSV managed to keep their 100% record in the Eredivisie intact at the weekend, but they have big ambitions for the Dutch Cup as well. A man to watch in the home team will be Luuk de Jong, who scored a hat-trick against Excelsior, while midfielder Ismael Saibari is on international duty with Morocco. Winger Hirving Lozano misses out with a hip injury.
The Reds, on the other hand, aim to build on a 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar, but given PSV’s brilliant home record in the 2023/2024 season, we are tempted to put our money on Peter Bosz’s troops. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team ahead of the trip to Eindhoven.
Highlighted Player (Luuk de Jong):
The 26-year-old Dutch striker Luuk de Jong is considered one of Europe’s deadliest strikers with his incredible return of goals in games he spends playing. Luuk de Jong began his football career at De Graafschap in 2008, but moved on to Twente only a year later.
The tally of 39 goals in 76 league appearances earned him a transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach, but his spell in Germany ended in disappointment. Bundesliga club attempted to revive his career by sending him out on loan to Newcastle United but his stint with the English club yielded even more disappointment and concluded in utter disaster with De Jong playing 12 games without scoring a single goal for the Magpies.
A return to Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven turned out to be a proper hit for the 26-year-old striker who has restored his scoring touch with more than 50 goals for the Boeren after less than 90 games.
Highlighted Team (Twente):
Based in the city of Enschede, Twente is a Dutch football club that welcomes their rivals at De Grolsch Veste. The venue was opened on May 10, 1998, and the capacity of the stadium is 30,205 people. The club was founded in 1965 as a merger of Sportsclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys.
The Reds did remarkably well to win the Eredivisie title in the 2009/10 season, with the team finishing the process only one point clear of Dutch giants Ajax. As a result, Twente booked their place in the Champions League group stages. The Reds did well to collect six points in their group, but that did not help them make it to the last 16.
Twente are well known for their red jerseys, but they wear dark blue shirts when playing on the travels. The Reds take on Heracles Almelo in the Twentse Derby. Sander Boshchker is leading Twente’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 653 goals on his account.
