Our prediction for this match:
All eyes will be on Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, North Carolina) when Mexico and Ghana lock horns in a friendly international. El Tri shared the spoils with both Australia (2-2) and Uzbekistan (3-3) in September warm-up games and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. The likes of Hirving Lozano, Luis Chavez, Gerardo Arteaga, and Jorge Sanchez are back to the squad, while in-form Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is widely expected to lead the line for the nominal hosts.
The Black Stars, on the other hand, faced no difficulties in a 3-1 win over Liberia in their last friendly, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in Saturday’s clash. Since Mexico will have a much bigger support at the stands than Ghana, we are tempted to put our money on Raul Jimenez and Co. As for the nominal visitors, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey returns from injury, with Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey making the cut as well.
Highlighted Player (Raul Jimenez):
Argentine forward Raul Jimenez began his career within the youth ranks of Club America, a club he went on to play 102 matches in all competitions and score 39 goals for before his 2014 move to Atletico Madrid. Despite signing a six-year deal with La Liga outfit in a reported transfer fee worth €11 million, Raul Jimenez never really managed to get his foot on the ground with the Colchineros.
After only 21 games and one goal for Atletico Madrid, the Mexico international moved to Portugal after his collapsed loan move to West Ham. Raul Jimenez missed the flight to London after reportedly oversleeping, but various reports suggest that he was advised by his agent Jorge Mendes to choose Benfica instead.
Portuguese giants initially acquired 50% of the player’s economic rights, while the remaining share of Jimenez’s contract was purchased in the summer of 2016 for a fee believed to be around €12 million. During his maiden season with the Eagles Mexico international played 28 Primeira Liga games, contributing with five goals during the process.
Highlighted Team (Ghana):
Ghana are an African football team administered by Ghana Football Association. The Black Stars made their first ever appearances at the World Cup finals in 2006 and they were grouped with the likes of Italy, Czech Republic and United States. Ghana booked their place in the last 16, but they were outclassed by Brazil in the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.
In 2010 the Ghanaians did remarkably well to make it to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup and it has to be noted that they were more than unfortunate not to eliminate Uruguay in the knockout stages of the tournament in South Africa.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan, Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Emmanuel Agymang-Badu, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Harrison Afful and Abedi Pele are Ghana’s most capped players, but, no doubt, Michael Essien is the most famous footballer who played for the Black Stars. The Ghanaians play their home games in white shirts, while the colour of the team’s away kit is red.
