Europa League 2019/2020 Preview

New Europa League campaign is just around the corner, with Premier League clubs once again being considered the main favourites to lift the trophy. Our Europa League predictions this year will be as sharp as possible like always.

Chelsea did remarkably well to win the Europa League title last term, but fellow English clubs Arsenal and Manchester United are expected to go all the way in the second most popular European competition this time out.

Wolverhampton could play an important role in the upcoming Europa League season as well, but the likes of Lazio, Sevilla and Roma should not be written off just yet.

EPL clubs favourites to win the trophy

Since the Europa League winner is guaranteed a place in the Champions League group stages, nowadays top European clubs take Europa League games very seriously.

Arsenal, who were beaten by Chelsea in the final of the European competition last term, aim to make amends for the heavy defeat and given the number of top-class players in Unai Emery’s team, it is no wonder the Gunners are considered one of the main favourites to lift the 2019/2020 Europa League trophy according to the bookmakers.

The likes of Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Dani Ceballos joined the capital club in the summer transfer window, but Unai Emery’s men will have to prove their worth on the field.

Arsenal are placed in Group F alongside last season’s semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria Guimaraes, whereas No. 1 favourites to win the Europa League title Manchester United will face the likes of Partizan, Astana and AZ Alkmaar in Group L.

Man Utd chiefs were not too active in the summer transfer window and, to make things even worse for the fans, duo Romelu Lukaku – Alexis Sanchez is not going to play for the Red Devils in the 2019/2020 season.

However, coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a good job with the Old Trafford, who are determined to book their place in the Champions League through Europa League.

Wolverhampton are yet another Premier League club that are vying for the Europa League title, but given their anything but good form at the start of the season, Raul Jimenez and Co. are unlikely to win their first ever European trophy.

Sevilla and Co.

Sevilla are one of three Primera Division sides that will represent Spain in the Europa League this term. Los Sevillanos made a flying start to the season, with summer signings already starting to pay off.

Former PSV attacker Luuk de Jong is expected to shine in the 2019/2020 Europa League campaign and seeing that Julen Lopetegui’s troops have slim chances of winning the La Liga trophy, they will surely give 100% to win the EL trophy and clinch their spot in the Champions League.

After impressing in the qualifiers, Espanyol aim to continue with fine performances in the group stages of the Europa League, but bookmakers do not see the Catalan outfit as one of the main candidates for the title.

Getafe have slim chances of winning the Europa League trophy as well as the lack of experience in European competitions is likely to prove to be the key problem for the capital club in the upcoming EL campaign.

Title contenders from “Eternal City”

After failing to book their place in the Champions League at the end of the last season, Roma will be looking to give fans something to cheer about when they face the likes of Istanbul Basaksehir, Wolfsberger and Borussia M’gladbach in the Europa League Group J.

Edin Dzeko is still leading the line for the Giallorossi, whilst summer signings Leonardo Spinazzola, Pau Lopez, Bryan Cristante and Amadou Diawara are expected to help the team improve defensively.

Lazio chiefs did remarkably well to keep hold of key players Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile in the summer transfer window and, as a result, football tips and football predictions that back the Biancoclesti should be considered when it comes to betting on the Europa League.

The capital club did not spend too much money in the summer as they brought the likes of Manuel Lazzari, Denis Vavro, Pedro Neto, Jony and Patryk Dziczek to Stadio Olimpico for the total of €30 million.

Europa League debutants

Back in 1972 Wolverhampton made it to the UEFA Cup final, with the team losing to fellow English club Tottenham 3-2 on aggregate in the double-header. The Wolves will compete for the first time ever in the Europa League group stages, as well as Austrian sides LASK and Wolfsberger.

Ukraine side Oleksandria, who take on Wolfsburg, Gent and Saint-Etienne in Group I, are yet another debutants in the group stages of the European competition.
